I disagree, the editor can ask for additional information.
Especially if after reading the piece he sees the need for an answer
to a question that comes from the piece. I have the same question
for McCain and many others who say we must stay until we win. I ask
any politicain to provide me with a definition of "victory in Iraq".
I'm serious how do you define victory when you are occupying another
country after you have thrown out the exsisting regime? Seems to me
is it when a duly elected replacement government asks you to leave.

Actually McCain does provide a timeline for withdrawl, the end of
his first term.
